    Paying Overtime

     

    The Fair Labors Standards Act (FLSA) is the Federal Law that governs overtime. Nonexempt employees are covered by the Act and must be paid at a rate of 1.5 times their regular pay rate for work in excess of 40 hours per work week.Most hourly workers employed in interstate commerce are considered nonexempt. Employees not covered under the act are considered exempt. The Department of Labor audits for compliance. Check this condition under the federal law as well as any state before classifying your Employees.
